HOMESCHOOL EQUESTRIAN ENRICHMENT
What if the barn became the classroom?
HOMESCHOOL EQUESTRIAN ENRICHMENT
What if the barn became the classroom?
At Parkwood Farms, we believe horses are extraordinary teachers.
They give young people a reason to learn about science, animal behavior, responsibility, communication, problem-solving, stewardship and leadership—and then actually practice those things in the real world.
Our Homeschool Equestrian Enrichment Experiences are designed to get students out of the traditional classroom and into a hands-on learning environment where they can see it, touch it, do it and remember it.
MORE THAN A FIELD TRIP
A visit to a farm can be fun.
We want it to be meaningful, too.
Our experiences are designed around active participation. Depending on the program, students may:
Observe.
Handle.
Groom.
Explore.
Measure.
Create.
Problem-solve.
Serve.
Teach.
Ride.
The horse is not simply something to look at.
The horse is part of the learning.
WHY HORSES?
A horse gives students something a worksheet cannot:
Immediate feedback.
When something doesn't work, the student has to stop, think, adjust and try again.
When a horse is uncomfortable, the student learns to pay attention.
When a horse depends on someone for food, water, grooming and care, responsibility becomes something they do, not something they are simply told about.
When students work together around a horse, communication and teamwork become very real very quickly.
Horses teach through relationship.
And those lessons often extend far beyond the barn.
